Darby Hand Methodist Church was erected in 1837, and played a central role in community life until its closure in August 1974. The Church had a strong tradition of choral singing as well as providing charitable services such as a medical club. In April 1975 the Chapel was moved to the Museum site and reconstruction commenced in 1977. It was re-dedicated in 1979.
