The leather trade in Walsall is world renowned. Growing out of the lorinery trade during the eighteenth century it became Britains biggest leather centre. Originally, most work centred on the production of saddles and harnesses, but with the decine of horsedrawn transport many firms changed over to the manaufacturing of light leather goods - travelling bags, wallets and purses. A few of these firms still exist today, including Whitehouse Cox who make quality leather accessories.
