Educated at Dudley Girls School, Sue Lawley started work as a journalist in the Welsh valleys. She joined the BBC in 1969 and rose rapidly from researcher to on-screnn roving reporter. She presented the current affairs programme Nationwide in the Seventies and the Six O' Clock News throughout the Eighties. Now presenting a wide range of programmes on radio and television she is perhaps best known for her long running "Desert Island Discs".
