One of the famous "Busby Babes" of Manchester United Duncan Edwards received fatal injuries in the air crash at Munich in 1958 at the age of 21. He was born in Dudley and played for England at the age of 18 years and six months, before going on to win another 17 caps for his country as well as two league Championship medals and a losers medal in the 1957 FA Cup Final. He is buried in the Dudley Cemetery and a statue in his memory stands in Dudley town centre.
