Photograph showing a typical black country kiln, often referred to as beehive kilns because of their shape. Kingswinford was famed for its fireclay, brick and tile manufacturing. Notable companies were the 'Dreadnought' works, where the roofing tiles are made; and Mobberley's brick work which still operated into the 1990s. Many women were employed in brick making - known locally as "brickyard wenches" they made and stacked the brick products.
