Black Country Pubs

The following items show a selection of public houses. Prior to the early 19th Century most Black Country Pubs were either small alehouses or coaching inns. After the Beerhouse Act of 1880 drinking establishments expanded rapidly along with the expansion of local towns and heavy enginnering foundry workers earned the reputation of consuming vast quantities of ale.
