Hingley of Netherton

Once the largest makers of Puddled Wrought Iron in the world the firm of N. Hingley & Sons Ltd, has played no small part in the industrial life of the Midlands and, indeed, of the country as a whole. Its founder, Noah Hingley, was responsible for bringing the iron ships cable trade to South Staffordshire, around 1820, and was a pioneer in the replacing of hempen cables on ships by iron chain cable. He established the firm in 1838 and commenced the manufacture of wrought iron to supply his chain of works. N. Hingley & Sons Ltd was demolished during the late 1980s and early 1990s.
