Birchills

This boat is doubled ended; the mast and rudder could be changed from one end to the other. This was for using the boat in narrow canals or basins where there was no room to turn the boat around.

The Birchills was built in 1953 by Ernst Thomas of Walsall, one of the last wooden day boats to be built. Birchills was used for carrying coal to Wolverhampton Power Station.
